The Ultimate Fighter 14 Recap

This in the beginning anyway has been one of the best so far.Back at the UFC Training Center, head coaches Michael Bispng and Jason "Mayhem" Miller meet with their coaches to discuss strategy before picking their teams.

The fighters then converge at the center, where UFC president Dana White flips a coin to determine the first pick. After the coin comically rolls across the mat on its side, it finally tips over and gives Bisping the first draft pick or matchmaking dueties the first fight. Bisping opts for the first pick.

The draft begins, and the teams include (in draft order):

TEAM BISPING
Bantamweights: Louis Gaudinot, T.J. Dillashaw, John Albert, Josh Ferguson
Featherweights: Diego Brandao, Akira Corassani, Marcus Brimage, Stephen Bass

TEAM MAYHEM
Bantamweights: John Dodson, Johnny Bedford, Dustin Pague, Roland Delorme
Featherweights: Dennis Bermudez, Bryan Caraway, Dustin Neace, Steven Siler

Dana reminds the fighters that $25,000 bonuses are up for grabs for the best fight, best knockout and best submission on the show. Fans get to choose the winners, and a fighter can win more than one.

Bantamweight Bout Added To UFC 139

A bantamweight bout between Michael McDonald and Johnny Eduardo has been added to the card at UFC 139,also officials have confirmed a bout between ex-WEC bantamweight champ Miguel Torres vs. Nick Pace. Both fights are expected to be part of the prelim. card.McDonald ,who is a former Tachi Palace Fights champion is 3-0 under the ZUFFA LLC banner and is also a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brown Belt and has won six straight fights.Eduardo, who is a 15-year veteran of the Brazilian fight circuit, made his debut at UFC 134 with a decision loss to Raphael Assuncao.Torres looks to rebound after a decision loss to Demetrious Johnson at UFC 130,he is now 2-3 since a remarkable 36-1 start to his career.Pace, who fought once under the WEC and Bellator banners, made his octagon debut back in December, when he tapped out Will Campuzano via rare pillory choke at The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale. However, back in August, he suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Ivan Menjivar (a replacement for MacDonald) at UFC 133. He's now suffered losses in two of his past three fights, which included a decision loss to Johnson at WEC 51.

Bellator 54 Update

Bellator 54 has added two more fights to its tourney semi-finals.In my opinion the Bellator series is a good, entertaining tournament  where you can see alot of good fighters with a good format.Well without further adue the semi-finalists and there pairings in the middleweights.Bryan Baker vs. Vitor Vianna,Baker who is 16-2 MMA and 6-1 BFC respectively, will be looking for his 11th win out of 12 fights.Vianna is a member Wand Fight Team fighter  and is 11-1-1 MMA and 1-0 inthe BFC.The other Semi-Final fight is Alexander Shlemenko vs. Brian Rogers.Shlemenko  41-7 MMA and  5-1 BFC who is known for his striking skills put them aside in the first round of the tournament to submit his opponent.Rogers 8-2 MMA and 1-0 BFC,also a great striker, who TKO'd his first round opponent with a head kick and flurry of fists, will be a great match-up.

Court McGee Wins In Decision

Well love him, hate him,or somewhere in between the least you can say is he always come for a fight. The thing about McGee is he is always going forward ,I don't think he knows how to back up and he always has that half insane half determined look at every fight.Well tonight was again his night as he won on the cards against Dongi Yang. The first two rounds were kind of ho hum but the third round McGee heated up with some takedowns and a flurry of punches and kicks.McGee isn't there yet but he will be maybe by next year.

The Aftermath:Shields vs. Ellenberger

Well I don't know if Shields was distracted or Ellenberger is just that good but wow I thought ths match would turn out different and not end so fast.On the other hand Ellenberger is that good he looked liked he had been training like a mad man for this fight and boy was he pumped ,wlking into the ring and when the bell rang through to the end where he rocked shields with a knee to the face, shields went down, then came the ground-n-pound assault from Ellenberger and like that it was over.Whatever it was congratulations go to Ellenberger who if he stays in the shape he is in now and mindset will in my view be up for a title shot very very soon.

Hominick On Card At UFC 140

Say what you will but Honinick is in my opinion a great intelligent all-around fighter,be it on the ground or standing up he is a very precise mixed martial arts fighter. He will be taking that precision to UFC 140 in Toronto to face "The Korean Zombie"Chang Sung Jung  in what will be a great featherweight bout. The fight will take place Dec.10th at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. This will be the second time Hominick will be fighting in his home country. The first time it didn't go so great he lost by scorecard but in my opinion he won the fight so now he is fighting his way back up the ladder.

Jake Shields Will Fight Saturday

Jake Shields said the decision proved rather easy.

Much easier than it would be for most people, anyway.

When his father and manager, Jack Shields, recently died, his son, who headlines Saturday's UFC Fight Night 25 event, decided the best thing to do was to complete his fight camp and go through with the fight.

"Late in the camp, unfortunately, I lost my dad, who is also my manager," Shields recently stated. "I had a really tough time. It took me a moment to figure out what I wanted to do, but I figured the right thing to do would be to continue to fight with him being my manager and my biggest supporter."

Shields (26-5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), a former Strikeforce middleweight champ who fights for the first time since a title loss to UFC welterweight titleholder Georges St-Pierre, meets Jake Ellenberger (25-5 MMA, 4-1 UFC) at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. The night's main card, including the headliner, airs on Spike TV.

Shields lost his father, a man who had many friends in the MMA industry, on Aug. 29. But Shields made his decision to go through with the fight rather quickly.

"I pretty much figured within a few minutes I was going to move forward and fight, so of course it's been little tough since then," he said. "But I don't think it's really affected my training. When it's been time to focus and train, I've been able to pull it together and got some of the best workouts and sparring sessions ever in the last couple of weeks."

Back in April at UFC 129, Shields, who was also an EliteXC champ, used a late-fight surge to break St-Pierre's streak of 30 consecutive rounds won. However, he ultimately fell short on the judges' scorecards. The loss broke a 15-fight win streak stretching back to 2005 that included welterweight and middleweight victories.

Shields said he changed up his camp for the UFC Fight Night 25 headliner, which lightened his schedule and may have made it easier to choose against scratching.

"I made some small changes that made a big difference and feel the best I've ever felt," he said. "I fixed my diet and switched to being fully vegan. I've been traveling a lot less and was able to get my camp closer to home. Before, I was doing a lot of traveling, but I got everything where I mostly train in San Francisco, which is nice. That gives me time to rest between my workouts, so I feel great right now."
R.I.P Jake Shields our prayers gou out to you and your family, you will be missed

Chris Camozzi returns to octagon

"The Ultimate Fighter 11" cast member Chris Camozzi (15-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is getting another chance in the octagon.

UFC brass today announced Camozzi will return at UFC 137, where he'll meet UFC newcomer Francis Carmont (16-7 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

UFC 137 takes place Oct. 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Camozzi vs. Carmont takes place on the evening's preliminary card.

Camozzi, who had been expected to headline October's Shark Fights 20 event, fights for the first time since a controversial Shark Fights 15 win over Joey Villasenor. The contest was originally ruled a split draw, but a New Mexico Athletic Commission review revealed one of the judges' scorecards was added incorrectly, resulting in a Camozzi win.

The bout was Camozzi's first since being released by the UFC despite a 2-1 record in the octagon.

Carmont, who enjoys a five-fight win streak, makes his debut at middleweight after seven years as a light heavyweight. A teammate of UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre at Tristar, Carmont has earned the majority of his career wins by submission, though his victories by TKO or KO closely follow behind.

Most recently, he stopped UFC vet Jason Day by first-round TKO in regional competition.

Bellator 59 set for Nov.26

The event, Bellator 59, will feature a pair of UFC veterans as Patricky "Pitbull" Freire (9-2 MMA, 2-1 BFC) meets Kurt Pellegrino (16-6 MMA, 0-0 BFC) and Marcin Held (11-2 MMA, 0-0 BFC) fights Phillipe Nover (5-3-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC).

Like Saturday night's Bellator 49 event, Bellator 59 takes place at Ceasars Atlantic City.

An announcement from the promotion is expected shortly.

Freire returns to action for this first time since dropping a unanimous decision to Michael Chandler in Bellator's season-four lightweight tournament. He'll take on New Jersey native and 12-time UFC veteran Pellegrino, who was recently released from the UFC following back-to-back losses to Gleison Tibau and George Sotiropoulos. Pellegrino, who said he petitioned for his UFC release, openly considered retirement from the sport but has apparently found the will to return to the cage.

Meanwhile, Held returns to the promotion after being bounced from the season-four tournament quarterfinals by Chandler in shocking submission fashion. Held did fight earlier this month, earning a submission win over Kaleo Kwan under the Australian Fighting Championship banner.

Nover looks to earn his second win since being released from the UFC. "The Ultimate Fighter 8" finalist was bounced after losses to Robert Emerson, Kyle Bradley and Efrain Escudero but notched an August win over Jake Murphy at Hoosier Fight Club 8.

UFC 139: Vitor Belfort vs.Cung Le

Here is a good surprise octagon fans,Belfort announced on his website that he will return to the octagon in November against former strikeforce star Cung Le.After Belfort had his last explosive win in UFC 133 against Yoshihiro Akiyama ,UFC is quickly putting hm back in the ring against  martial arts master Cung Le.Le has been trying to get on the San Jose card,as he has proven to be a big time draw in that class with Strikeforce, but it hadn't been confirmed the san shou fighter had signed with the UFC.But apparently he is an official member of the UFC middleweight division, this will be probably be one of the better fights of the night with both fighters being very explosive fighters.
Vitor Belfort (20-9)
Win Yoshihiro Akiyama (KO - punches) - UFC 133
Loss Anderson Silva (KO - front kick) - UFC 126
Win Rich Franklin (TKO - punches) - UFC 103

UFC 140: Tito Ortiz vs.Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

The UFC added another bout to the UFC 140 card in Toronto on November 10th.In a light heavyweight bout that was supposed to happen last March but was cancelled due to injury.Ortiz will face Nogueira according to UFC.com tonight.Nogueira's twin brother Rodrigo will also be fighting on the same card against Frank Mir

Rich Franklin to undergo surgery

It was rumored that Franklin was going to be taking on Tito Ortiz in the Fox 1 show in November, but that is not going to happen.Franklin hurt himself in the gym 10 days ago and will undergo shoulder surgery next Tuesday.Franklin earlier had this to say on his facebook and website"The timing of this incident is unfortunate considering my fight was pulled from the UFC 133 card, but I know everything will go as planned and that I will recover quickly" and "The UFC is being supportive, and I hope my fans also will be understanding - I promise to get back in the Octagon and fight again as soon as possible." Franklin was training in a routine grappling practice at his gym when the injury occurred.

UFC 137 :BJ Penn vs. Nick Diaz

In another turn of events this week surrounding UFC 137,Diaz who was stripped of his title shot and Penn who lost his opponent(Condit) to GSP will battle it out in the octagon now.Diaz skipped out on two public apperances and was on the verge of being cut from the UFC but Dans White being kind hearted as he is has let Diaz back in.Diaz will bring a 10-fight win streak into the fight that include three defenses of his strikeforce belt.Penn returns to action for the first time since a draw with Jon Fitch at UFC 127.So what all this means in my opinion is Diaz will probably be fighting GSP again in the near future for another title shot and hopefully Diaz doesn't screw it up again because this would be a really great, historic main event.

UFC 137:Big change for GSP

The least thing to say about Diaz is Why?,Why when you Dana White something you do not hold up to it,well that's plan dumb.To catch you up to speed Nick Diaz no showed several press conference's and cost Mr. White and The UFC a bunch of dough so Dana pretty much said you screw me I will screw you,so Diaz is out of the UFC 137 and a title shot aganst GSP and Carlos Condit is in.GSP was qouted as saying in a press conference"I don't understand how someone can not show up to an oppurtunity like this" and "I just can't believe it.It's amazing.I don't know what to say. It's crazy".Now since former Strikeforce champ has been yanked Condit is in as an even stiffer opponent.Condit comes into the fight with a four fight win streak against some pretty good fighters (Dong Hyun Kim,Dan Hardy,Rory MacDonald, and Jake Ellenberger) in fact Condit has won 12 out of his last 13 fights only losing to points in a slim margin to Martin Kampmann.

Brock Lesnar to fight at UFC 141 on Dec.31st

Former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistar Overeem has signed with the UFC and will face Lesnar in a five round fight to serve as a #1 contender spot. The victor will face the winner of the Nov.12 bout between current champion Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos. Overeem was releaed from strikeforce in late July following a conflict between UFC and trikeforce officials regarding his ability to compete in a Sept. 10th bout with Antonio Silva. On the filpside, Lesnar hasn't competed since an October 2010 loss to Velasqueze.A second bout with Diverticulitis nixed a summer bout with other Ultimat Fighter coach Dos Santos.Everyone counted out Lesnar after this second bout and I will admit I thought so also, but The Bossman Dana White was qouted as saying "Ridiculous",and I must say I am happy that Lesnar is coming back.

Bellator signs Cosmo Alexandre

In a fantastic piece of signing news for any fan of the stand-up game, Bellator has signed highly decorated Muay Thai fighter Cosmo Alexandre. Cosmo will make his debut at Bellator 52 on October 1. He'll be competing in the Lightweight division, with no opponent yet announced for his debut.
The 29 year old fighter is a veteran of the international Muay Thai scene, with some very impressive stand-up credentials. Highlights of his Muay Thai and kickboxing career include winning the It's Showtime 77kg title, and the prestigious King's Cup tournament in Thailand in 2009. He possesses excellent kicks, and a beautiful jumping knee that he has used to win a number of fights.
Recently, Alexandre has been training extensively with Rashad Evans and K-1 fighter Tyrone Spong, helping work with Evans before his UFC 133 fight with Tito Ortiz. Alexandre has spoken openly of his desire to transition into MMA, and has been focusing on his ground skills and grappling game in order to make that move.
In short, Cosmo Alexandre has the potential to raise the level of technically proficient striking in Bellator's Lightweight division. If he does indeed get a decent ground game together, he could be a true force in Bellator's exciting Lightweight division.

Wow there is alot of MMA coming up

September 17th (Spike TV) - Jake Shields vs. Jake Ellenberger headlines a loaded main card in New Orleans at UFC Fight Night 25. This card also marks the return of middleweight contender Alan Belcher against Jason MacDonald, and rising FW star Erik Koch against TUF 12 winner Jonathan Brookins. The co-main is for some reason Court McGee vs. Dongi Yang but whatever.
September 24th (PPV) - UFC 135 in Denver features Jon Jones' first title defense against Quinton Jackson. I don't care what people say about Jon Jones, he is the future of this sport and will be one of the best to ever fight. Don't let your personal dislike cloud the fact that he has run through every opponent he has beaten and has dismantled opponents in ways no one ever has. There is no way he will flame out like Brandon Vera and there is no way he won't be a champion in the UFC for a long long time. Also on the card is Matt Hughes vs. Diego Sanchez in a fight that could vault Diego into the title picture. Nate Diaz also looks to duplicate his brother's success against Takanori Gomi without getting popped for drugs.
October 1st (Versus) - Dominick Cruz vs. Demetrious Johnson for the Bantamweight Championship. If you ask me, Dominick Cruz is one of the top p4p fighters on the planet and could be as dominant in his weight class as GSP or Anderson Silva. He's come close to defeat a couple of times but with a win over Mighty Mouse he'll have more title defenses than Miguel Torres, who is currently the only other person who could challenge him, and he's 2-3 in his last 5. This is the first free title fight on cable TV for the UFC since UFC 75: Rampage vs. Henderson. Other bouts include Pat Barry vs. Stefan Struve in what should be a fight of comical proportions, and Anthony Johnson against Charlie Brenneman. It should be a great night of action with the low ratings we've all come to expect on Versus.
October 8th (PPV) - UFC 136 is so stacked that they could remove Edgar vs. Maynard III and Aldo vs. Florian and it would still be a damn good card. The aforementioned title fights in Houston are the main attraction along with Chael Sonnen's return to the ring against Brian Stann, who luckily has no deep history of submissions. Melvin Guillard looks to rise up the LW ladder against Joe Lauzon. Wow this is a sick card. I haven't even mentioned the Spike TV portion with Demian Maia vs. Jorge Santiago and Anthony Pettis vs. Jeremy Stephens! Both fights that could headline a Fight Night caliber card and neither will disappoint. There's Dave Herman vs. Mike Russow on the main card, too. War Herman.
October 29th (PPV) - UFC 137 in Las Vegas. Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz and BJ Penn vs. Carlos Condit. Plus Hatsu Hioki's UFC debut against George Roop, which made the main card. You know, Nick Diaz could be GSP's Chael Sonnen. Honestly GSP should destroy Nick like Anderson was supposed to destroy Chael. Diaz loves to talk trash and will always put up a good fight. Chael Sonnen took the fight to Anderson Silva like no other fighter has ever done. He still got stopped but if we ignore a broken rib and TRTs then we know the blueprint to beat Anderson Silva. Nick Diaz has the striking and submission game to hang with GSP but absolutely no wrestling ability at all.....but strange things happen in MMA. GSP has been criticized for not finishing fights and not really pushing the pace, well Nick will force him to push the pace just like Chael forced Anderson Silva to work. Carlos Condit is arguably the best "bigger weight class" fighter to ever come out of the WEC and he's had no problem bringing his entertaining style and crushing finishes to the UFC. If he can beat BJ Penn he absolutely deserves the next title shot. The best thing about Condit? He's still in his 20s. And I haven't even mentioned Cheick Kongo vs. Matt Mitrione or Donald Cerrone vs. Dennis Siver, the latter fight on Spike TV this card is so loaded. Mirko Cro-Cop is fighting Roy Nelson in what will be a tragic fight but you know what? In light of the UFC 134 results....PRIDE NEVER DIE!!!!
November 5th (Spike TV) - UFC 138 marks the return to England and the first five-round non-title main event in UFC history. Chris Leben will concuss Mark Munoz within 1 minute so we won't have to worry about this one going the distance. It's a UK show so the card is filled with UK fighters with 60% of them likely to never make a dent in the promotion. Two good fights to look out for are Brad Pickett vs. Renan Barao and Thiago Alves vs. Pepe Abedi. If you notice a subdued crowd during this event it's likely due to the vicious beating Anthony Njokuani will deliver on Paul Taylor.
November 12th (UFC on FOX 1) - Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos for the Heavyweight Championship of the WORLD ON FREE TV OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!!! I'm sorry but this is self-explanatory.
November 19th (PPV) - UFC 139! The main event for this show in San Jose was supposed to be Cain vs. JDS but there will be a new one. There are still some great fights in place, including Urijah Faber vs. Brian Bowles and Martin Kampmann vs. Rick Story. Josh Koscheck will return to action at middleweight after GSP jabbed one of his eyes blind. Jon Fitch may also be on this card but he's the very definition of MMAmbien.

Ryan Bader to face Jason Brilz at UFC 139

A lot of people have wondered who Ryan Bader would face coming off of his embarrassing loss to Tito Ortiz at UFC 132. Well, it looks like we have our answer now. The former Ultimate Fighter winner will face Jason Brilz. The good old UFC webpage kept this one short and sweet:
Also agreed to on that same fight card is a second light heavyweight showdown, this one between Jason "Hitman" Brilz and Ryan "Darth" Bader.
Bader is actually on a two-fight losing streak, as he was also defeated by current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones back at UFC 126. Those were the first two losses of his career, and it remains to be seen whether Bader can still be a force in the division or not. Brilz has also lost two fights in a row, and could very well be looking for a new employer if he loses this fight, although his loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira was by the slimmest of margins and might not be counted against him.
Ryan "Darth" Bader (12-2)
Loss Tito Ortiz - Submission (Guillotine) UFC 132
Loss Jon Jones - Submission (Guillotine) UFC 126
Win Antonio Rogerio Nogueira - Decision (Unanimous) UFC 119
Jason "The Hitman" Brilz (18-4-1)
Loss Vladimir Matyushenko - KO (Punches) UFC 129
Loss Antonio Rogerio Nogueira - Decision (Split) UFC 114
Win Eric Schaefer - Decision (Unanimous) UFC on Versus 1

The return of Brock Lesnar

The rumor mill is that Brock Lesnar will return to the UFC in December but no word on who he will go against first.I for one welcome him back whole heartedly. He is a great athlete and a major player in the sport.Though he had some set backs he is still a good fighter but the question is,and most people I have talked to,ask if he is good enough to step in the octagon with the likes of Junior Dos Santos and Cain Valsquez? Only time will tell and I hope he has a good comeback.

Rich Franklin makes his comeback in December

UFC Middleweight champion Rich Franklin was in attendance at this weekend's Fight Tour event in Rockford, IL. At the event, Franklin spoke about his upcoming plans in the UFC. According to Franklin, he will be meeting with the UFC this week in order to set up his next fight. He's currently looking at late December for his return.
Franklin was scheduled to face Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 133 earlier this month, but when Nogueira dropped out due to injury, Franklin was left without an opponent and pulled from the card.
Since 2007, Franklin has been competing primarily at either Light Heavyweight or a 195 pound Catchweight. But the ex-champion at 185 had some interesting comments about moving between divisions:
I've always said 185 is my home. But they [the UFC] don't want me to be there, so it's 205.
Interesting to hear Franklin, always the company man, state that he is fighting outside of his preferred weight because that is what the company wants. And it makes sense from the UFC's perspective - Franklin's last five fights have all been sort of "attraction" fights against name opponents and former champions. Light Heavyweight is where you can find more of those name fighters, and provides more opportunities for Franklin. But at 2-3 in his last five fights, is what's best for the company also what's best for Franklin at this point?

UFC Fight Night 25

A bantamweight tilt pitting Ken Stone against Donny Walker is the latest addition to an impressive roster for the UFC’s forthcoming Fight Night 25 event. Both men remain winless inside of the octagon, and given some uninspiring performances, a loss here could easily equate to walking papers for either man.

In another fight that could see the loser leave town, Daniel Roberts will collide with Anthony Waldburger in a welterweight duel. A loss for Roberts means three consecutive defeats; he’s certainly in no position to flirt with danger. Waldburger dropped his last fight to Johny Henrdicks at Fight Night 24, and while a loss to Roberts may not earn him a pink slip, it’ll certainly leave him on the cusp of unemployment.

In the events headlining bout, former title challenger Jake Shields will meet surging prospect, Jake Ellenberger.

Shields sports a promotional record of just 1-1, having beaten Martin Kampmann via decision in his promotional debut, and subsequently dropping a five round decision to current champion Georges St. Pierre.

Ellenberger in contrast enters the bout with momentum on his side, as he’s pieced together an impressive four fight winning streak. Amongst his recent victims are John Howard and Mike Pyle. Ellenberger’s UFC record stands at 4-1.

Check out the 11 bouts now official for the event, which unfolds on September 17, from the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
